When decorating your house, you may have heard of a few fancy words like modern, chic, bohemian, industrial while flipping through magazines. You probably even have an idea of what they look like. But most people who are not aware of these terms, have a tough time figuring out what it is and what they like.
Some of the most popular home decor styles are:
Bohemian home decor
This is perhaps the most eclectic theme and its uniqueness has made it most people’s favorite for ages. The bohemian (or boho) theme, like the hippie theme, is all about mixing textures, colors, etc, based on how you like them. There are no norms when it comes to colors, materials, patterns, or anything.
However, there are some commonly found elements like fringes, tassels, crochet, bright colors, uneven throw pillows, bold prints, ethnic patterns, beads, blankets, exotic rugs, rustic lamps, and unconventional seating options. The way to get a boho look right is to not worry about getting it wrong.
Industrial home decor
The industrial home decor looks just like how it sounds—rustic, raw, and rugged. While other themes try to cover up the structural elements of a space, the industrial theme flaunts it. Pipes for rods and brick walls are an integral part of achieving this look.
Rustic wooden furniture, open metal shelves, solid lamps, and soft lighting are some key elements. This type of decor can usually be found in modern cafes, loft apartments, and edgy retail stores. The furniture and showpieces featured tend to have a bold, defined shape that is functional above everything else.
Coastal home decor
Also known as the Hamptons style, the coastal home decor is the kind you would find in an ideal beach house. These spaces are relatively open and are well lit by natural sunlight. The spacious living rooms feature tall glass windows and wide balconies. One prominent characteristic of this theme is the dominance of the color white.
Most furnishings, walls, and fabrics are white. Beige and gray tones are common as well. Typical decor includes the usage of seashells, pebbles, coral shades, and exotic patterns in blues and greens. These spaces feature laid-back seating options.
You can find pops of green in the form of houseplants, like succulents. Other commonly found features include Venetian blinds, silky curtains in light colors, and rock walls.
Modern home decor
Modern or urban modern home decor is a combination of several other themes. It is a theme that is constantly changing to better suit the changing tastes of urban folks. It can be described as a combination of all the best features of other themes.
There are no hard and fast rules to follow. It is the ideal theme for the average cosmopolitan home. It borrows lighting and structure from the industrial theme, pops of color from the bohemian theme, and breeziness from the coastal theme. Its main feature, however, is to be efficient and functional in the most compact spaces.
Look around your space and try to identify the theme that suits your style the best.
